Legal
Licenses & terms
Plain-language summary. The machine-readable license for each dataset is authoritative.
Two kinds of dataset
Open datasets (CC0 or U.S. Government public domain) may be used and redistributed freely, including commercially. We surface the original source and license on every record and in the /license endpoint.
Commercial datasets are first-party compilations licensed to your API key under the Commercial API terms. They are not for redistribution.
The provenance promise
Every dataset ships with a source URL, its original license, and a redistribution basis, recorded before the API goes live. ai_training is false on every dataset by design — training rights are never bundled silently.
Using the API
- Keys are personal and rate-limited (100 calls/day). Don't share them.
- Each response carries its license URL in the
X-Licenseheader. Honor the license of the dataset you query. - Open-data attribution text, where provided, is in the dataset's
/licenseresponse.
No warranty
Data is provided "as is". Public-interest datasets (e.g. FDA recalls) are mirrored from their sources and may be incomplete or lag the source; do not rely on them for medical, legal, or safety decisions. See each dataset's source for authoritative records.
